Safari in National Parks: Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater

Tanzania. Witness the changing face of Lake Manyara, which—depending on the season—becomes a haven for large flocks of vibrant pink flamingos. Though the landscape constantly evolves, its beauty never ceases to impress.

You’ll descend into the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater, where wildlife thrives in an untouched environment, and venture across the sweeping plains of the Serengeti, where nature reveals its wild and raw splendor. Along the way, expect to encounter Africa’s legendary Big Five: elephant, buffalo, leopard, rhinoceros, and lion—alongside giraffes, hippos, zebras, cheetahs, ostriches, jackals, mongooses, and many more incredible species.

And if your visit aligns with the seasonal rhythms, you may be lucky enough to witness one of nature’s greatest spectacles—the Great Migration—as massive herds of wildebeest journey across the Serengeti in search of fresh grazing.

Lake Manyara

After breakfast at the hotel (around 7:30 AM), your safari guide will arrive and notify the receptionist that they are ready to meet you. Once you’ve met your guide and driver, you’ll begin your journey to Lake Manyara National Park. By approximately 10:00 AM, you’ll be on your first game drive! Lake Manyara is a lush, green paradise fed by underground water streams, making it a haven for vegetation and a wide variety of wildlife. The park is especially renowned for its rich birdlife—including colonies of pink flamingos—and forest-dwelling species such as monkeys, baboons, and elephants. Around midday, you’ll stop for lunch at the scenic Maji Moto hot springs, where your driver will provide you with packed lunchboxes. After a relaxing break, your safari will continue through the park before heading toward your hotel near Ngorongoro in the evening. Important Notes: As this is your first day on safari, we kindly ask you to observe the following guidelines for your safety and to help preserve the natural environment: Do not exit the vehicle during the game drive, except in designated areas. Violations may result in significant fines and jeopardize the tour operator’s license. Off-road driving is strictly prohibited as it can cause long-lasting damage to the ecosystem. Smoking is permitted but must be done with extreme caution. Please dispose of cigarette butts responsibly—fires are a serious risk in the savanna. Please respect the vehicle by avoiding placing your feet on the seats or sitting on the seat backs. Thank you for your cooperation, and enjoy your first day in the wild!

Ngorongoro Conservation Area

On this day, it is best to leave the hotel as early as possible to maximize your chances of seeing the animals that are most active in the morning. Depending on whether you’d like to extend your safari time, breakfast can either be served at the hotel or packed in lunchboxes for you to enjoy on the go. At 6:30 AM, you will depart for Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and after about an hour, you will enter the crater. Ngorongoro is one of the most famous and fascinating national parks in Tanzania, as it is home to the highest concentration of animal species per square kilometer. During your visit, you’ll have the chance to see buffalo, elephants, lions, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, and feline species like caracals and servals. The luckiest travelers may even spot a rhinoceros, whose population is rapidly declining. By lunchtime, you will arrive at the lakeside, where you will be offered lunchboxes. Afterward, the safari will continue, and a few hours later, you will be transferred to Serengeti National Park. Along the way, you can visit a memorial dedicated to two West German researchers, Bernhard and Michael Grzimek. Thanks to their efforts, Northern Tanzania's National Parks have survived in their natural state until today. You can read their full story in the book "Serengeti Shall Not Die", available on Amazon.com for USD 10–25. In the evening, you will be transferred to a hotel located in the heart of the Serengeti Valley.
