Safari in National Parks: Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti

This 5-day safari adventure offers an immersive experience across Tanzania’s top national parks—with full-day game drives in Tarangire and Ngorongoro, plus three unforgettable days in the Serengeti.

The Serengeti National Park is often described as one of the greatest wildlife reserves on Earth. Its diverse climate and sweeping plains make it an ideal habitat to spot majestic lions at rest, shy leopards tucked into the trees, and elegant antelopes grazing freely.

One of the key strengths of this itinerary is the opportunity to encounter rare and lesser-seen species of African wildlife. With more time in the Serengeti, your chances increase of spotting pythons, oryx, elands, servals, caracals, secretary birds, crocodiles, rhinos, and many others in their natural setting.

Tarangire National Park

In the morning, after breakfast (around 7:30 AM), your safari guide from Velam Tours will meet you at the hotel. After greeting your guide, you’ll begin your journey to Tarangire National Park, and by 10:00 AM, your first safari adventure will start! This park is known for its diverse wildlife, including lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, and more. However, Tarangire is especially renowned for its large elephant population, which often stays close to the Tarangire River, their primary water source. Please note that this is a wild, natural environment, and your guide cannot guarantee the sighting of specific animals. That said, rest assured that the guide will use their best efforts to locate everything you're hoping to see! Using radio channels, the Velam Tours guides stay in contact with each other and work together to search for rare species. Around lunchtime, you’ll be provided with a meal, and after that, the safari will continue. By evening, you’ll be transferred to your hotel near Ngorongoro Crater, a remarkable destination you'll explore the following day! Additional Notes: This is your first day on safari, so we kindly ask that you follow the national park visitor rules and the guidelines provided by Velam Tours: Exiting the vehicle during the safari is strictly prohibited, except in designated areas. Violating this rule may lead to significant fines for the company and could even result in the revocation of our license. Off-road driving is not allowed, as it can cause irreversible damage to the fragile ecosystem of the park. Smoking is permitted, but please be extra careful when extinguishing and disposing of cigarette butts, as they can easily cause fires in the savanna. We kindly ask that you do not place your feet on the seats or sit on the backs of the safari vehicle seats, as this can cause damage to the vehicle.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area

On this day, it’s best to leave the hotel as early as possible to maximize your chances of spotting the animals that are most active in the morning. Depending on your preference for extending your safari, breakfast can either be served at the hotel or packed into lunchboxes for you to enjoy on the go. At 6:30 AM, you’ll depart for Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and after about an hour’s drive, you’ll enter the Ngorongoro Crater. Ngorongoro is one of Tanzania’s most famous and captivating national parks, boasting the highest concentration of animal species per square kilometer. During your visit, you’ll have the opportunity to see buffalo, elephants, lions, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, and feline species such as caracals and servals. The luckiest guests may even spot a rhinoceros, whose population is unfortunately on the decline. By lunchtime, you’ll arrive at the lakeside, where lunchboxes will be provided. Afterward, the safari will continue, and a few hours later, you’ll be transferred to Serengeti National Park. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to visit a memorial dedicated to the West German researchers, Bernhard and Michael Grzimek. Their invaluable efforts helped preserve Northern Tanzania’s National Parks in their current natural state. You can read more about their story in the book "Serengeti Shall Not Die", available on Amazon.com for USD 10–25. In the evening, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in the heart of the Serengeti Valley.

DAY 4

Serengeti National Park

Today, your adventure takes you to the world-renowned Serengeti National Park—one of the largest and most iconic wildlife reserves in Tanzania. Known for its vast open plains and incredible biodiversity, Serengeti offers countless opportunities to spot animals such as lions, elephants, giraffes, antelopes, buffaloes, and zebras. With a bit of luck, you may also encounter cheetahs, serval cats, and other rare species native to the African savannah. The Serengeti is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its critical ecological importance, high concentration of wildlife, and the dramatic spectacle of the Great Migration—one of the most breathtaking natural events on Earth. This day’s safari will focus on the central part of the park, a stunning region known as Seronera, celebrated for its diverse habitats and exceptional game viewing. Fun fact: this landscape was one of the inspirations behind Disney’s The Lion King, though the real Serengeti offers something even more magical—an untamed wilderness, raw and full of life.

DAY 6

Serengeti National Park

Today marks your final day exploring the heart of the Serengeti. But don’t expect a repeat of what you’ve already seen—the savannah is full of surprises, and every day brings new scenes to witness. That pride of lions lounging in the sun yesterday might be on the move today. Elephants you spotted in the distance could come closer out of curiosity. And if you're especially lucky, you might even catch a cheetah climbing onto your safari vehicle, using it as a lookout! This is also the perfect time to visit the famous Kopjes—iconic rock formations left behind by ancient volcanic activity. These massive granite boulders dot the Seronera plains and are a favorite resting spot for lions and other animals, making for truly unforgettable photos. You’ll also get to see the legendary Simba Rock, the real-life inspiration behind the iconic opening scene in Disney’s The Lion King, where Mufasa presents baby Simba to the animal kingdom. Standing before this dramatic outcrop brings the magic of the movie to life, right in the middle of the African wilderness.
